Welcome, Flutists and Parents!
You may be here because you or your child are starting to learn to play the flute but need some extra time with it outside of school or work to fully “get it”.
Or maybe you’ve been playing the flute for a little while now and you want to finally make 1st chair in your ensemble, or are considering majoring in music in college?
You may even be an adult who hasn’t played in a number of years but have been itching to play again.
Perhaps you just really love playing the flute and want to learn how to play all of your favorite pop songs! (calling all Swifties!)
I have taught many students over the past 10+ years of all ages, backgrounds, and levels. Private lessons with me will guide you towards achieving all of your flute goals along with taking away practical “people” skills that benefit far beyond the music room!
What are the Vibes Like?!
1. Embracing individuality
I am a BIG people person, and I absolutely love interacting with folks from all different backgrounds, personalities, interests, skills, and quirks! There is no “one size fits all” in my studio. This means that lessons are tailored to meet EVERY student where they are. We get to know each other like what our hobbies are, our favorite movies, favorite songs, or favorite snacks. We set goals like learning to play high notes without squeaking, overcoming nerves, creating a practice routine that works for you, or auditioning for the honor band you’ve always wanted to try out for. We explore different types of learning styles. There is nothing better than being able to be your full authentic self!
2. Building self-discipline through music
Now that we’ve gotten to know each other and landed on some attainable goals and learning styles, we need to set you up for success outside of flute lessons. Together, we create strategies that will help you practice at home and build a solid practice routine with healthy habits. We can hold ourselves accountable while also treating ourselves with kindness!
3. Using your music skills outside of music
The skills you learn by studying music reach far beyond the band room or private lessons! This can look like acing your math test, successfully learning a foreign language, presenting your project or idea with confidence, learning time management, interviewing and landing a new job, navigating conflict or a difficult conversation, how to be a good listener, or simply being able to express yourself clearly. We cover ALL of these topics in flute lessons, and as your mentor, I am here to support you in every step of your journey.

What's Included In My Lessons?
-
Private individualized time where you can ask me any and all questions!
-
Learning a solid foundation to playing with a beautiful flute sound. This includes hand position, posture, breathing, embouchure, and more!
-
A curriculum tailored to fit your needs and reach your goals. This includes scales, etudes, solos, duets, band music, orchestral music, pop music, and holiday music.
-
Building and increasing your self esteem and learning self-discipline.
-
A well-rounded music education including elements of music history and music theory.
-
Being part of a supportive community of like-minded individuals. You have the opportunity to play in a flute choir (have you ever wanted to play the bass flute?!), and playing in front of an audience through studio recitals. We also have studio parties, we attend concerts, we have fun studio games and contests (yes, there are prizes!).
-
Support from myself inside and outside of flute lessons. This could be as simple as me sending you or your parents a “how did rehearsal go today?!” text, or even a cat meme!
My Philosophy
I believe that when we create a space that allows for safe and fun explorations through music, people will understand themselves more and will discover that they have the strength and courage to navigate challenges in life.
I’m a huge flute nerd and I LOVE classical music. I’m also a huge Swiftie (“clowning” and Easter Egg hunting included). I also love Punk Rock (some may consider me an Elder Emo). I’m a proud crazy cat lady (writing this as my cat, Bella, is sleeping next to me. She’s a big helper). All of these things can be true at once! We don’t have to fit in one box as flutists. You like the band Green Day? Great! Let’s play an arrangement of “Basket Case” on the flute. Are you more of a metalhead? Let’s play a flute choir arrangement of “Enter Sandman” (it does exist and it’s AWESOME).
We are individuals first, and musicians second. Music is an amazing way to escape the struggles we face in our day to day life. But it’s also an even more amazing tool to help us overcome these struggles that we face! I fully believe and trust in the importance of music in guiding us to live as authentically as we can. Maybe you’re not sure who you are at your core yet, or what your interests are. That’s perfectly normal and OK! Let me help you discover yourself through music, and set you up for success for the rest of your life both personally and professionally.
